Collection of the maritime history of the state

The Shipbuilding and Seafaring Museum Rostock is the maritime museum of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The collection is diverse but has a focus on the maritime history of the state, the region and the Baltic Sea.

The collection includes thousands of maritime objects, as well as postage stamps and vessels such as the steam tugboat SATURN. Hundreds of ship models, from the reed boat to the modern cargo ship, illustrate the history of shipbuilding and shipping. Numerous collection pieces come from the shipyards and maritime companies of the GDR. The museum also houses an important collection of maritime art, including numerous ship portraits from the 18th and 19th centuries. In addition, the archive contains more than 10,000 photographs and documents.
